Intro:

At Northshore Naturopathic Clinic we offer a holistic approach to tackling the complex issues of anxiety and depression. We believe that you need to use conventional testing and tools to identify functional and emotional causes of anxiety and depression, and so we have our patients undergo quantitative electroencephalograms (qEEG), along with classical homeopathy to achieve a fully encompassing diagnosis.

Our goal is to help our clients regain their mental wellness so that they can thrive by using medication free treatments that are easy on their bodies. The most recent scientific understandings are what we abide by in our clinic, and our integration of mind and body therapies means new hope for our patients.

Anxiety and depression facts:

Antidepressants undoubtedly have their place in the treatment of depression, but sadly, 40% of patients using these medications will have a relapse after they stop taking antidepressants in 2-4 years. Modern medicine, while it does work, does not address the underlying physiological changes associated with mood disorders.

Furthermore, very few medications have been studied for long-term use. Most studies that test antidepressants in humans range from 6 weeks to 9 months, with effectiveness measured at 35-60% improvement of the initial symptoms.

Medicating those who are suffering from depression or anxiety does not fix the often underlying causes, especially in the case of anxiety, which will not go away without dedicated work. It is a simplistic approach to treating a complex brain.

Canada ranks third in the world for the most antidepressants use. And this cannot be attributed to something like our lack of sun, as Australia ranks first! Almost 1 out of every 10 Canadian is now using at least one antidepressant medication.

The reality when it comes to treating depression and anxiety is that, while medication can be a part of the overall treatment, for most people work must be done to address underlying issues through various therapy options.

Anxiety and Depression Testing:

There are many factors that can trigger mood disorders. Inflammatory responses, dietary imbalances, hormonal abnormalities, psychological stress, emotional trauma, disturbances of gut flora, or the changes in the biochemistry of the neurotransmitters can all trigger the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

At our clinic, we are passionate about helping our clients regain their mental wellbeing. We believe that to do this our patients must thrive naturally, and that is why we use individualized functional testing and natural, medication-free approaches. This means our intakes are thorough, and they take into account all the possible causes of anxiety and depression. We never merely ascribe these symptoms to brain chemistry imbalances and move on.

Anxiety and Depression Treatment:

We believe that anything that infringes upon you living the life you want to live, whether it makes you feel poorly, be a person you do not want to be, or be unable to achieve your goals, is taking away from your freedom. These infringements are part of the disease process, and our concept of disease is based on “degrees of freedom”: be it a symptom, be it dependence on medication, or be it a recurring emotion!

Along with correcting the neurotransmitter biochemistry, inflammatory causation, and gastrointestinal imbalances, we also help you master meditation techniques and perform classical homeopathy to help you gain power over your repeated emotional patterns. We also offer Loreta Neurofeedback as a personal development tool for patients who have other underlying conditions, as is often the case with mood disorders that develop due to a concussion.
