Remember to eat according to the climate in which you live. For example, right now in the Vancouver area we are still experiencing a lot of cooler temperatures and cloudy skies. Once in awhile we’ll get a day or two of warm to (sometimes) hot temperatures; this is not your cue to start eating a lot of “cooling foods” such as salads and out-of season fruits. There’s not enough sunshine for your skin to be making enough vitamin D to help with calcium absorption (and thereby keep your ileocecal valve strong). Also, keep in mind that even when the sun is shining, you have to get out in the sunshine in order for your skin to make vitamin D. So if you’re cooped up inside all day, don’t eat too many “cooling foods,” even if the sun is shining.
